Finding Joy in the Writing Process with Sharon Giltrow

Today, I’d like to welcome Sharon Giltrow to “Getting to The Heart of Why We Write.” On today’s episode of the podcast, we talk about a lot of different things, community events in the kidlit world including Storystorm where she posted on day 14 about turning a picture book into a middle grade series.

Some of my favorite parts:

  • Language development in which she is an expert.
  • How she can’t stop writing because like many of us, she has the urge to express herself and that means using all the words.
  • The support one can find in the kidlit community, especially in 12×12 where we connected.
  • Giving your mind air, space, and room to wander–where you often find some of the best ideas!
  • Apparently, in Australia, authors receive royalties for their books being checked out of libraries!
  • Some words of advice-believe in yourself. You can do it and you will do it.

Also, be sure to check out Sharon’s latest book, Samara Rubin’s Utility Belt and her picture books including Bedtime, Daddy!; Get Ready, Mama!; and Let’s Go Shopping, Grandma!I hope this latest episode puts a little pep in your step this weekend. Stay tuned for next week’s episode with Lisa Rogers!
